The explorers are those whose names are registered to come and play. They are usually members or daily drop-ins. They should be in the play area in socks at all times, ready to go to class when the leader (you) begins class. Since this is not a school-setting, the children should never be forced to participate or partake in all activities until they feel prepared to do so. They will not be assessed or graded, so the goal is for them to feel comfortable and safe in the space.
We allow siblings to join in the play area, but they must also be registered as a sibling so we don't exceed the Limited Capacity allowance. Siblings 12-months and up are given a discounted rate and must be accounted for prior to coming to LE. In some cases, the older sibling can play a "helper" role in the class. Siblings 12 months and under are free*.
*Note: This policy is subject to change, so please double check with Caroline or Mallory to be sure.
Parents must stay and watch their children at all times. They are free to sit in the lounge/lunch area, and could bring their laptop and use our WiFi if their children are old enough to be kept at a distance. Parents are responsible for taking home the children they came with, unless a rapport has been built with the leader, who receives physical permission from the parents for another adult to take their child.
If an explorer is bringing a friend or guest who will be using the facility, they must be registered and pay the daily drop-in fee (unless they are existing members).
Foster parents have the same role/responsibilities as parents. As a leader, please offer moral support to our foster families as part of the mission of the Heart of Little Explorers. Unfortunately, parents and foster parents are not permitted to have meetings with outsiders as we ask for only one adult to be there per explorer child.
If the registered little explorer is accompanied by another child, please remind the grandparents or other adult companions about our Limited Capacity Policy and use your best judgement about whether you will allow more children to play. We also ask for only one adult to be there per child, so please enforce that rule and insist that it is for everyone's safety.
